Project YES Africa: Youth Empowerment Service

PYA is a U.S. based non-profit that “provides direct support and partnerships with existing resources in South Africa to ensure that every child—regardless of circumstances, gender, or ethnicity—has access to a quality education.” Their first project is a complete rebuild of the Nokwanda Educare Centre, a pre-school (crèche), in the Khayelitsha township outside of Cape Town, South Africa. With creative brainstorming exercises, I guided PYA’s executive team through a strategic process for developing their unique message, which informed the design of identity collateral, signage, a WordPress website, and social media graphics. The PYA logomark was inspired by the African Adinkra symbol, meaning “He who does not know can know from learning.” It represents a continued “quest for knowledge” and “lifelong education.”
